Transport Department is conscious of the issues like road safety and environmental pollution, and is committed to enhance safety while reducing vehicular emissions. In this regard, the Department took an initiative to replace the existing MVE system of “Ramp and Stamp” with state-of-the-art Vehicle Inspection and Certification System (VICS) in Punjab to improve the safety of passengers, and to control excessive vehicle emissions by ensuring the fitness of public service and commercial vehicles. Transport Department, Government of the Punjab signed a concession agreement with OPUS Inspection (Pvt.) Limited, a Swedish firm, to establish 39 state-of-the-art VICS stations on Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT) mode under Public Private Partnership (PPP) throughout Punjab. The benefits of the project are as follows:
